If you live in the Triangle-area and are looking for someone to take care of your yard, there are many options and companies that provide Raleigh Lawn Service.
However, if you decided not to hire a professional and do things yourself, one of the things you’ll need is a good lawn mower. First, you should decide if you want a push mower or a riding mower. My general rule is if it takes you longer than an hour to mow your lawn, you should consider getting a riding lawnmower. If it takes you less than an hour, stick with a push mower. It’s good exercise.
My family’s choice for a push mower has been anything from Honda (ever since they started making mowers). Their models aren’t too loud, have a great self-propel, feature double blades that mulch the grass so you don’t have to pick it up or bag it, and it require minimum maintenance. I think these mowers are much higher quality than something you might find at Sears.
In Raleigh you can purchase one of these at Clay’s Power Equipment.

There are a variety of businesses to choose from when you’re looking for a lawn service in Raleigh. Here are a few companies that provide Raleigh lawn service and care.
- Scott’s
- TruGreen
- Southern Lawns of Raleigh
- Eastern Turf Maintenance
- Nutri-Lawn
All these companies will do a good job in taking care of your yard. You could always do it yourself, but that requires reading up on all the different fertilization, disease-prevention and weeding methods, not to mention all the time it takes to do this yourself. If you ‘re like me, you’re better off letting a professional oversee your lawn’s success.

A few years back, my Dad hired a neighborhood guy to come mow our yard. That was pretty much all he did. Nothing like the options you get with a Raleigh Lawn Service. This was before I was old enough to mow, but for some reason I always liked mowing.
I remember watching intently as he or my dad mowed our grass, just wishing that I was big enough to help in some way or do it myself. I think mowing is kind of a rite of passage for me. Maybe I always equated mowing with being a man or something. I looked forward to mowing for years. But once I tried it (and was “asked” to do it regularly) I stopped liking it so much. Kind of like pumping gas or dating a crazy girl.
On this particular day I had stopped watching through the window when I heard the doorbell ring. I remember standing behind my Dad as he opened the door. The yard guy pointed down our brick steps to a paper grocery bag.
“Got a snake,” he said, smiling. I went outside to look into the bag and there was a big black snake in there. I think he called it a “black racer.” He’d seen the snake while mowing and managed to trap it in the bag. I’ll never know where he got the paper bag. Burning questions like these keep me awake at night.

Are you wondering what to expect from a Raleigh lawn service to help you maintain and improve your yard?
It can be confusing to know what to look for and ask for so here’s what you need to know. There are a variety of services that are often included in an estimate, and you can pretty much dictate which ones you want and don’t want. You can decide which services will be beneficial to you and your lawn and opt out of other services to save money. Not every lawn care provider works like this but most are pretty flexible.
Some typical lawn services that are provided by companies in Raleigh include:
- mowing
- weed-eating and trimming around trees, mailboxes, swing-sets, etc
- edging around your driveway and sidewalk
Other services that may be offered are:
- leaf collection
- bush trimming
- fertilization and weed killing
- seeding
- lawn aeration
- landscaping
If you don’t know exactly which services you want, that’s ok. Have a professional offer an analysis and estimate and choose what you want done, and what you don’t. Keep in mind that you’ll need different services depending on the weather and time of year. For example, people typically aerate and put out grass seed in the Fall. Most of the mowing usually is done in the Spring and early summer.

So you want to find a lawn service in Raleigh? There are a few factors to consider when deciding which Raleigh lawn service you want to hire.
First, you should know how lawns are typically priced. For mowing it’s usually priced by square-foot or by the minute. A Raleigh lawn service will typically price at least $1 per minute it takes to mow. So if it takes 50 minutes to mow your yard, expect to pay at least $50.
If mowing is not all you want, there are a variety of options available, depending on the company you choose.
Some common services are mowing, trimming, aerating, seeding and keeping the natural areas looking good.
Other services include mulch or pine-straw installation, fertilizing, weed control, and grass disease control.
If you’re really looking to go all out you should choose a Raleigh lawn service that offers landscaping, including sodding, pruning, and planting/watering shrubs and plant beds.
If you don’t know exactly what you want that’s ok. Many services will offer a free consultation and give you advice to help you decide which services you want to purchase.
If you’re just looking for someone to mow your yard, we recommend that you make sure they come once a week, especially in the spring when your grass is growing quickly.
That’s about it for factors to consider when choosing a lawn service in Raleigh. If you’d like to advertise here please contact us at webmaster (at) raleighlawnservice dot com.
